Small Business Spotlight - FreeBird & Co

One of the things I love about being a headshot and branding photographer is meeting small business owners, hearing their stories, and helping support them. I met Marachen, co-owner of FreeBird & Co a year ago and immediately clicked with her and her mission at FreeBird &Co. So now it's time to put FreeBird & Co in the spotlight!

What exactly is FreeBird & Co? FreeBird & Co is a small husband/wife duo owned by Marachen (Marci) and Finch Clark. They roast coffee beans here in small-town Norwalk, Iowa. The duo sources high-quality green beans and roasts them using their tried and true roaster, affectionately named, Goldie. Goldie is a San Franciscan roasting machine.

FreeBird 'took flight' when the couple decided to leave the corporate world and focus on providing the best brew to cultivate the best morning. Aside from their roasted beans, the couple also offers custom consulting. With over 50 years of combined experience in the corporate world from finance, healthcare, and nonprofit work--the couple is well-versed to provide a human-centered approach to consulting.

You can purchase directly from the website, locally at Middlebrook Mercantile, or The Good Butcher. The couple looks forward to moving the roastery to Cumming with an anticipated move-in date in August. You can check the progress on their Instagram.

Aside from coffee and consulting, you can also purchase FreeBird & Co merch. You can wear a shirt with the logo, magnets (as seen in my studio), or handcrafted pottery with the FreeBird & Co design. My favorite product that FreeBird & Co offers is the medium roast coffee grounds, Free Spirit. I love using it to make an overnight cold brew and serve it over ice in the morning with a splash of coffee creamer.
