Granny Chic - Layla's Newborn Session

I have never been one to follow trends, in fact, I often go completely against the status quo when it comes to fashion and looks--something my sister still loves to point out. So, when Kristina reached out to me about a newborn session for her baby girl, I knew I wanted to incorporate what I call, 'Granny Chic.'

To me, Granny Chic is a mix between old and new items that are both cozy and modern. For Layla's session, we incorporated this crocheted granny square throw in multi-colors with the sheen of the velvet pillow. She's wearing the cutest little outfit with the lace detail on the back and the sleeping cap--definitely a granny chic look!

Three-year old big sister, Vayda, joined in for a few photos. I loved Vayda's classic dress and through it fit in perfectly with the granny chic vision I was going for for this session. As Lyla snoozed away on the infant bed, Vayda 'read' her fairy tales from an antique children's book. I am obsessed with the outcome of this shot. It's such a sweet shot that encompasses childhood and a sisterly bond from the beginning.

We switched up the wardrobe to a more neutral color scheme for a few shots as well. Vayda took this as an opportunity to ham it up for the camera. That big sister has so much personality! She also has the most stunning eyes. She's definitely going to be a great big sister to Baby Layla.

One of my favorite images from Layla's session was this cute little apple themed set in the red bucket. Layla was perfectly content in the bucket and allowed me to snap away. She's such a little sweetie.

I had so much fun with Layla and big sister Vayda and I hope they come visit me again! Maybe next time I'll be able to convince parents to jump in a few photos!
