July Headshot Mini Sessions

In July I offered my first (of many!) Headshot Mini sessions. This was a fun and easy way for people to come in and update their headshots for their business profiles, LinkedIn account, or business cards.

I was surprised by the outcome of people that signed up for the first mini session. I had wedding photographers, new entrepreneurs, relators, college students, librarians, and prevention coordinators all come in. Each chosen image included the color version along with the black and white counterpart.

Even though I marketed these as headshots, I explained that I also take full body images as well as 3/4 length shots. I also include some images with negative space--like Grace's on the top left. This is perfect for online for text, business cards, or even an Instagram crop. Having that flexibility with your images is key. Headshots (and all branding sessions) come with a commercial release license vs a personal release license, which allows you to crop the image and manipulate it. Do you need to remove yourself from the background? You can do that with the commercial release license.

Des Moines, Iowa Headshot and Branding photography - woman with long dark hair wears a green top and dark colored blazer smiles at the camera in front of a gray backdrop.

I choose to shoot on a gray backdrop for this round of Headshot Mini Sessions because I love a good neutral, but it really is easy to extract the person from a gray backdrop.

My friend, Kara is another amazing photographer, and she let her personality shine with her images. She brought along her camera for some shots.

I had a variety of stools and chairs available for seating options as well as standing photo options to allow people to be the most comfortable and relaxed. Not all headshots need to be the traditional 3/4 image that we're used to seeing.
